General Granitehammer's Preliminary Assault Plan in Solace Vale
After Zeva’s disappearance, Rotas Irgraine went to Col. General Granitehammer.
"Lord Rotas, sir, first off, that convoy on the road from New Ports to Gateway City simply *has* to go.
• I am requesting through the chain of command that the Sunhawks be detailed to eliminate the convoy escort as expeditiously as possible.
• I am willing to assign the 374th Archery Brigade (2624 soldiers) to assist if needed. "For the big party at Gateway, we aren't pulling any punches.
• I'm sending 1st Armored Division in its entirety north out of Merwellyn. 1st Armored Cavalry Regiment will cover the rear flank against the possibility of a charge by the convoy, or any reinforcements out of New Ports.
• 1st ACR is 2 brigades of mounted Cav and 2 brigades of warwagons (check the Soreel Forum for details on warwagons if you haven't already). That'll be 5248 Cav troopers and 1792 warwagons covering the south approach to theater.
• 3rd Armored Cavalry will proceed north and take station between Gateway Pass and Solace, cutting off any effort to reinforce from the north. 3rd ACR is 1 brigade of warwagons (896 wagons), 2 brigades of heavy Cav (5248 troopers), and one brigade of elephant-mounted cavalry (2624 troops, 1312 elephants).
• This will leave 2nd Armored Regiment to enter and liberate Gateway City. 2nd Armor is 2 brigades of warwagons (1792 wagons), and 2 brigades of heavy warwagons (1920 heavy wagons) to move on Gateway.
• Intel reports only 800-1000 goblins at Gateway, so it should be a slaughter. Once Gateway is secured, 1st and 3rd ACRs will maintain station, and 2nd Mobile Infantry Division will stage a Spelljammer landing in Gateway City to begin the encirclement of the goblins laying siege to Wolfgaard.
• 241st Mobile Infantry Brigade will take up position in Gateway City, allowing 2nd Armor to spearhead the assault on the goblin troops at Wolfgaard. Last Intel reported 500,000 goblins attending the siege. We're sending just shy of 42,000 troops against them, but we are better trained, better armed, and have superior position.
• We also have 2 regiments (1st and 3rd ACRs) on the ground to act as a reserve force, plus a full division (31,500 troops) in orbit should we need to decisively commit. "To be perfectly honest with you, sir, the only thing I'm worried about is dragons. We cannot plan for the effects of any interference by the beasts, and I can't stand here and say that we *won't* come under dragon attack.
• We can elevate the ballistae on our warwagons to 45 degrees, but they fly so fast that my gunners would be hard pressed to score a hit on one. Simply put, we aren't trained for ground-to-air combat. If you have any ideas on keeping the flying lizards at bay, I'd sure like to hear them, sir.
• "Now, what I would *really* like to do, is after we take care of the situation at Wolfgaard, is to seize New Ports to deny the enemy access to resupply by sea. Since I don't have naval assets to interdict their shipping, denying them a major port is the best I can do. Assuming that I won't need to bring in 3rd Infantry Division for the assault of Wolfgaard, we can use them to besiege New Ports, and bring down some of the heavier units to protect the flanks and expand our perimeter.
• The major problem I see in this region is that the population is demoralized by the enemy and afraid to fight against their occupation. If we can show these people that the enemy *can* be defeated, they may start fighting back instead of lying down and allowing themselves to be cowed into submission.
"Now, sir, if you don't mind, I have orders to issue to get this operation underway. Give us Two days to get our units in position, and then the fireworks start." So there you have it, III Corps comprehensive plan for beating the shit out of bunch of goblins. Somewhat more ambitious than the assigned objective, but it's a modular plan that can be executed in pieces as needed. Feedback appreciated and encouraged. Take care,

Nearly a year, without looking at this data, the plan has gone forward, and the results are nearly identical in Military Doctrine.
